Walking Together
Dear Supporters,
For a party I was invited to recently, we were asked to wear something to represent our team and our team colors.
Quite happily, I pulled out my first Hunger Walk shirt from 2019 to wear my blue to represent Team THCA!
I am so proud and humbled to be Captain of Team THCA for the 6th year for the annual Hunger Walk Run. This event, produced by the Atlanta Community Food Bank, helps us raise funds that specifically help us cover the cost of food that we purchase from the Food Bank throughout the year.
With the number of neighbors we are serving continuing to grow, ensuring that Team THCA, along with the other teams walking for us, raise at least $20,000 from the Hunger Walk is more important than ever.
In just the first month of this year, we averaged 220 families served each day we were open, and distributed 124,000 pounds of food! That puts us on track to share 1.5 million pounds of food in 2024, and having funds to purchase the food will help us so much in the fight against food insecurity.
We are humbled by the stories of resilience and gratitude shared by those who visit our food pantry; it is your generosity that has made that possible.
Made it possible for Pablo and his family to find asylum and freedom…
Made it possible for Ada to ensure her girls AND she can eat…
Made it possible for Johnny’s disability check to cover rent…
You see, at the heart of THCA is the spirit of teamwork that brings together individuals, volunteers, staff, community partners, and supporters like you. Together, we form a strong and dedicated community working towards a common goal: to make a difference in the lives of those we serve, to succeed in the fight against food insecurity for our neighbors.
A South African freedom song says:
Come walk with us, the journey is long.
So, come walk with us in the Hunger Walk,
come walk with us as we walk with our neighbors,
come walk with us as an integral part of our team making a difference.
Let us walk together, and we will go far…
Gratefully,
Rev. Dr. Lisa Heilig, Executive Director
The Hunger Walk Run is truly an event everyone can participate in. If you can’t raise funds and walk for Team THCA, you can donate. If you can’t donate a lot, a little goes a long way, as food is 8 cents a pound at the Food Bank.
You can donate to the team at large or to a specific team member. You can even start your own team from your faith community, school, workplace, or community association to raise funds for THCA. And, you don’t have to walk at the event held downtown; you can walk in your own neighborhood!
This year, the Hunger Walk is on March 10 and Team THCA will once again be active in raising funds and having fun!
If we can raise all of our funds online, 100% of that will go into our account for purchase of food from the Food Bank.

Let’s make this the year we break our fundraising records for the Atlanta Community Food Bank Hunger Walk Run!
PS – Huge thanks to other teams walking for THCA.
All the funds they raise will go to our account as well.
