Nothing But Net for
March Madness 2026
This is the time of year, even if you are not a basketball fan, you can’t help but to see ballers all over your TV and social media feed, and to hear about busted brackets in the break room. Yes, it is now March Madness, the NCAA College Basketball championship for both men and women.
As March (and April) Madness is upon us, who are you rooting for?
Indiana, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, Florida, Duke?
UConn, UCLA, Texas, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, LSU?
Are you rooting for the powerhouse or the Cinderella story?
Don’t forget to also root for Toco Hills Community Alliance!
Unlike college basketball, THCA’s success truly rests in your hands.
Your support has helped feed over 7500 families this year already!
This includes hard-working families with children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and, because of our proximity to several colleges, some of the 23% of undergraduate and 12% of graduate students who are facing food insecurity, even as they try to study and make a better life.
Students like the first generation law student who received a full scholarship for tuition, but no other financial aid. He and his disabled partner come for food every few weeks and are so grateful. And, I am happy to report, he received stellar grades in his first year.
Sharing food happens on our campus, at mobile food pantry events across town, and through our food delivery program.
So many of our neighbors have so many odds stacked against them, but thanks to you, they can come to THCA, where we share food – and hope – that provides just a little push they need to keep going. In fact, in a recent survey, almost 75% of those we served said that because of what they receive here, they leave here with less worry about their future.
Because of you and your support, we are able to increase access to healthy food for our neighbors, working to provide our services more efficiently and effectively by:
*providing 40% fresh produce in our food boxes
*offering Mobile Food Pantries at alternate times and places
*refining systems to serve those in our lines quickly – but with care
*expanding our box delivery program to more seniors and disabled
So, even if your bracket gets busted, just know that here, on our team at THCA, your support means nothing but net for those we serve, with whom we can share healthy food – and a heart full of compassion.
THANK YOU for making it possible for families with kids, retired senior citizens, disabled veterans, and others to get a win when we serve them.
We are so glad to have you as part of our team, because it really does take all of us working together to make a positive impact in our neighborhood and our community.
Rev. Dr. Lisa Heilig
Executive Director
P.S. One of the best ways to keep up with THCA is to follow on social media: Facebook and Instagram. We post updates of families served, special events, and other items of interest.
Team THCA Report
With your support, we did very well with this fundraiser that will allow us to purchase food at just 8 cents a pound.
Team THCA met its goal to raise $20,000 and the other teams that walked for us are on track to raise for us to raise $30,000.
HUGE thanks to Team THCA, of course, but also to these teams:
Clairmont Presbyterian Church
Team NDPC (North Decatur Presbyterian)
Laurel Ridge Area Teammates
SMLC Hunger Fighters (Saint Martin Lutheran)
And, it is not too late to support THCA and the Hunger Walk. Donations are being accepted through the end of March.

Since November 2024, we have been partnering with DoorDash to deliver groceries directly to families who otherwise might go without. Each week, this program currently helps us serve about 50 families— senior citizens, people with disabilities, and disabled veterans.
Did you know that MARTA is cutting the bus line near our pantry, making it much harder for many of our residents to reach us?
Our food delivery program is needed now more than ever!
For just $20 per month, you can ensure that one family receives weekly groceries delivered to their door (each delivery costs $4.95).
For $1,000, you can cover delivery costs for 50 families for a month.
If you ever wonder what food and supply items we need most at THCA, we keep an updated list on our website. Food items need to be unopened. But, canned or boxed items can be accepted up to 6 months past the “Best By”date. We can also accept unopened frozen food items.
