Celebrating Community
June 2026
Have you caught World Cup fever yet?
By nature, I am not really an athletic person, and I don’t really follow FIFA Soccer, but, somehow, I have found myself swept up in the World Cup:
the pride of each host city (like the ATL!),
the pageantry of it all,
the hard work of each team,
the hope of all the fans…
Even as this celebration of soccer goes, there are other celebrations-
The Knicks and fans celebrating as basketball champs,
The Tonys celebrating the art of Broadway,
Juneteenth celebrations of freedom,
Celebrations of pride and love.
These also all have something in common with what we do here at THCA.
Sure, it’s about sports and awards and holidays,
and, sure, what we do at THCA is about sharing food.
They are also about more. They are also – we are also – about:
Connection between people,
Camaraderie of sharing,
Community being formed.
In the midst of our often chaotic world, we need connection, we need camaraderie, we need community even more than ever.
We need connection like the young single mom and her 2 year old experienced here when the 2 year “wrote” a thank you note.
We need camaraderie like the unhoused friends who share a table every Tuesday to eat their lunch together.
We need community like the one we all have formed together, where people are seen, valued, and cared for.
In fact, our 2025 Annual Report highlights the incredible work we’ve done together as a community — feeding families, supporting neighbors, and standing up for one another when times are tough. It is work that we can all be proud of and celebrate.
Even as we celebrate, we recognize that times are not getting easier. According to a recent NPR article, more people are going hungry now than at the height of the pandemic. And, rising costs for food and gas are making it harder for nonprofits like us to serve those in need, especially as we move to serve people where they are.
We can be so proud of the positive impact we have made together,
and still know that
*there is more hard work yet to be done, so
*that our neighbors have their fill of food, and
*our neighborhood is filled with hope.
Whether you have World Cup fever or not, we are so glad you are on our team as we face food insecurity head on.
So, what can you do to help?

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your support, for being part of our team, for being part of our celebration, for being part of our work to come.
Because of you and your generosity, together, we continue to
be about
Connection and
Camaraderie and
Community.
Gratefully,

Undoubtedly, THCA would not run without our 120+ volunteers who give of their time and energy and skills so that we can fulfill our mission of Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Volunteers are our heart and hands.
On Friday, June 12, we held our annual Summer Volunteer Appreciation Party, with over 60 volunteers in attendance. The party theme this year was “It’s a Jungle Out There,” and everyone had a great time wearing animal prints and safari outfits, going on a scavenger hunt, playing bingo, eating tacos (thanks to Taqueria del Sol!), and talking with one another.
If you ever wonder what food and supply items we need most at THCA, we keep an updated list on our website. Food items need to be unopened. But, canned or boxed items can be accepted up to 6 months past the “Best By”date. We can also accept unopened frozen food items.
This is especially important now, as we have been informed that Food Bank inventory is low and will be all summer.
We are so grateful for your support!
