Dear Supporter of Toco Hills Community Alliance.
You may have noticed the monthly newsletter going out a bit later than usual. To be honest, August has seemed to be slipping away quite quickly. Not only are we continuing to see a huge need, and has there been heat and humidity, we are in a time that our high school volunteers are back at school and the college students are not here yet, and many volunteers are still on vacation.
And, in the midst of that, we are in a growth era here that will set us
up to be better prepared for whatever the future may hold.
One of changes we are working on is a migration to a new giving software that will be completed very soon. It should not affect your giving in any way, other than a slightly different form. It will, however, interact directly with our others systems to be more efficient. As always, if you have any questions about
your gifts, please email me directly at [email protected].
Another change is that we are working to not just update, but redevelop, our website. By moving to a WordPress website, it will allow for the site to be
translated into other languages, for variety in the format, and have an expanded resources page for those who need other services. And, we are always seeking ways to improve how we serve the people to come to us. We keep adapting so that we can provide the best, most nutritious food, that meets the varying needs of our neighbors – those who are unhoused, those with special diets, those.
Because that is why we do what we do – provide groceries and share hot meals, give clothes and find resources, foster an environment of care and compassion, create community – for our neighbors who need more food on their plate and less worry.
We are so glad that you all are part of our community, too. Your
support makes it all possible. Your donations of money and food and clothes and supplies; your volunteer hours; your commitment to being good neighbors and making a positive impact.
A positive impact for people like
- Little Pablo, who watched silently over his little sisters as his mother came for food and who, after eating a hot lunch, became all smiles as he told me he is 10 and can speak English now (even as I struggled to put Spanish sentences together).
- Albert, who comes for a hot meal and groceries weekly, whose only special request is for a little more bread and cheese, so we put some aside so it's waiting for him.
- Gerry, who brings people from her apartment complex with her so they don't have to ride the bus or go without food.
Together, we are touching hearts, we are making a difference, and we are growing for a future in which we will touch more hearts and make a bigger, more positive, impact in our neighborhood. Thankful for your support in our changing era,
Rev. Dr. Lisa Heilig, Executive Director

The Farm Bill is federal legislation that governs
many nutrition and agriculture programs, and it is up
for renewal in 2023. This legislation allocates
funding for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Together, these programs
help bridge the food gap for millions of families and individuals facing hunger across
the country.
It is a bill that is renewed every 5 years, usually with broad bipartisan support.
Throughout the month of August, lawmakers will be on recess. We encourage you to
utilize this time period to reach out to your elected officials and connect with them.
