The numbers are going up- not down. EVERY dollar helps us keep pace with the growing numbers of neighbors that need our help.
We spend a significant amount of time counting and adding up our “numbers”.
- How many families?
- How many children in those families?
- How many pounds of food?
- How many boxes to hold that food that goes to those families?
- How many…well, you get the idea.
How many…well, you get the idea.
Our reliance on numbers helps us plan efficiently SO WE DON’T RUN OUT OF
FOOD and other supplies when we need it most. The numbers also help us
project a little bit into the future. Because we pay attention to the numbers
we know that the percentage of unhoused neighbors receiving our
services has grown from 14% in 2021 to over 20% this year.
And, as you know by now, the numbers go up – not down.
Here’s just a few October numbers: 89,846 pounds of groceries were distributed to 1,434 families with 3,984 individuals. 52% of the families had children.
2,567 articles of clothing were distributed to families in need. Shoes. Coats. Clothes to go to work and clothes to go to school. Socks for our unhoused neighbors. 15,000+ pounds of food were received from Oak Grove UMC’s “Spooky to be Hungry” food drive.
480 pounds of food go into weekend backpacks each month at Laurel Ridge Elementary so those children in need have something to eat on Saturdays and Sundays. 30 families served by La Amistad receive groceries each month through our partnership with Clairmont Presbyterian.
Your monthly support as a Sustaining Donor will really help us as
we prepare to meet the growing needs of the hungry and the
homeless in north DeKalb.
We receive a LOT of donated food but still have to purchase food and other supplies from our network of providers to meet the needs of our hungry and homeless neighbors:
As you can see- every gift is important and needed. Because the numbers are going up- not down.
Please support our effort to feed the hungry, the homeless, and families suffering from food insecurity while reducing food waste by clicking the DONATE button below.
